Cut Flower Plant Starts from Windy Acres Horticulture
We’re trying something new this season! If you’d like to grow gorgeous bouquets of your own this spring, but don’t know where to start, we’ve got you covered. Carrie Kling, from Windy Acres Farm in Middleport (she supplies the bouquets for our flower shares), is putting together trays of 30 large robust Specialty Cut Flower varieties ready for planting this spring. (Think, sometime in May).
Expect this unique and convenient collection to include annuals and perennials, and hard to find varieties as Lisianthus and Eucalyptus, as well as varieties like American Basket flower, Dahlias, Rudbeckia Henry Eilers, Snap dragon Rocket white, Magic Fountains Delphinium, Mountain mint, Helianthus First Light and Eupatorium Little Joe.
Content will depend on what’s growing at the time that will make lovely cut flowers. An informational sheet will be included covering variety names, bloom time and best harvest practices. Expect to cover about 15 square feet of space, planted 6-8 inches apart. You can certainly add them to your established garden as well.
